Ardee Community School pupil Kian Leavy is in the Netherlands this week with the Republic of Ireland Under 15 squad – and before flying out to Holland, he had a very special training session with a couple of Republic of Ireland legends.
Training at the FAI’s National Training Centre in Abbotstown ahead of the friendly double header with their Dutch Under 15 counterparts, Kian and his teammates were treated to a very special session with Damien Duff and Robbie Keane.
Duff joined the Under 15 coaching ticket in May last year and has worked closely with Colin O’Brien and his successor Jason Donoghue to help nurture the young talents at their disposal. On Friday afternoon, the country’s record goalscorer Keane was on hand to help out with the session – and of course give the boys some finishing advice too.
Kian, who is in third year at ACS, has been training with the panel every weekend in January in the build up to the the games and the playmaker – who plays his club football for St Francis Boys in the Dublin & District Schoolboys League – will be raring for an opportunity to impress.
The squad took on the Netherlands in the first of their games at the KNVB training centre in Zeist – near Utrecht – on Tuesday afternoon. They will face off once again on Thursday.
