The local heat of the 2017 Credit Union National Inter-Primary Schools Quiz will be held on Monday next – January 30th – at 8pm in the Bohemian Centre, with this year’s theme ‘Show Us Your Brain Power’.
Over 25,000 schoolchildren aged under 13 years of age will partake in over 300 schools quizzes in all 32 counties across the country over the next week. As ever all questions have been compiled by teachers and will cover topics such as geography, history, sport, literature and music.
2017 makes the 26th year that the annual Schools Quiz has been organised by the League of Credit Unions. The knockout local and regional rounds precede the national finals to be held in Dublin, in which 100 teams from across Ireland will compete.
The 2016 Schools Quiz saw Newtown NS and Drumconrath National School progress from their age groups to the the stage two regional heats.
The team from Newtown NS finished in first position in category A, for children up to the age of 11 while Drumconrath’s young quizzers won their section – Category B – which is for children 13 years or younger. Last year; Newtown, Drumconrath, Ballapousta, Monastery NS and Scoil Mhuire na Trocaire were joined in the competition by youngsters from Collon NS.
The quiz has for it’s duration of existence been a staple in the academic calendar for staff, teachers and pupils, as well as staff from Ardee Credit Union.
